I would never watch the Olympics again
I second that JAW!!!!!
I just read an article on another site about that, this is the most disheartening thing to hear about with the sport. Think about all of the guys that are training or wanted to train to make the olympics and now they have no where to go after 2016's games, other than the world cup. Looks like MMA will become more prominent in recieving a lot of college wrestlers after they graduate.
This is crazy how and the the heck are they going to cut wrestling? One of the original sports.
What can be done? What is the proper chain of command to follow to get this fixed? Any suggestions?
It has to be voted on to become an at large event. It is competing with the likes of squash, wakeboarding, and rock climbing. Tough competition (sarcasm intended).

This isn't going to go over too well internationally. When Baseball and Softball were cut they had solid reasoning since the sport was only popular in a tiny handful of countries. Wrestling spans North America, Eastern and Northern Europe, most of Asia, Northern Africa, and the Middle East.
Honestly don't see it happening. There are so many countries around the world that place a much higher emphasis on wrestling than we do here in the states. It would be an absolute travesty.
Light em up! [email protected]
This will kill a lot of off season wrestling, for programs in the north since there will no long be a need for free style or Greco wrestling. Sad thing to hear. We need to work on a solution. It's prolly wont go over we'll in the mma world since they claim most of their fighters from wrestling. Good possibility it's changed I believe
Wow! The most noble of sports gets cut, and replaced with what? The IOC sees the growth of the X Games and wants to emulate it.
That's insane , the oldest sport in the world one of the sports the Olympics were founded on. I can't believe this will hold up .
There is still the World Championships so it isn't like there is no reason to wrestle freestyle and Greco anymore. But the Olympics are extremely symbolic and certain countries (like us) place high emphasis on the Olympics
It still has a chance for inclusion, competing against a few others : http://www.olympic.org/news/ioc-executive-board-recommends-25-core-sports-for-2020-games/190772
I highly doubt they will let us back in right after cutting us. Insiders think Karate is going to get in
Voice your displeasure to the USOC. [email protected] Every little bit helps.
Wow, our world is overrun with metro sexual hippies, the exact people we as coaches have had to cut or who couldn't handle our workouts. No offense to anyone, just really shocked at where our world is headed. I'm thinking the United States is headed that direction also. I'm glad I get to raise my sons, because society would screw them up.
Amen jbiggie, dont get me started on these softies. not gonna soapbox but it's sad. Just when you thought MMA was helping wrestling. It has in many ways but unfortunately it's also going to replace it. MMA is the X game version of wrestling. Fastest growing sport in world. I'm a big fan but it is also a culprit.
Lets face it, "Real Pro Wrestling" Mo Lawel, Rico Blackmon and other Olympic hopefuls. All the rule changes, weight classes. They have been trying for many years. Probably losing its A@# financially at the training center. Its not as exciting as punching someone in the face, not as fun either. Todays culture is different.
Not to mention the all mighty $, who is watching, supporting, ratings.
Think of the TRICKLE down effect, USAW and it monies and supporters and young Olympic hopefuls. USAW is gonna get punched in the face.
we all pay.
WRESTLING the oldest Olympic sport.
While I love your enthusiasm here and im not discouraging you. Theyre going to get hit with so many emails it would be a waste of time to type a well thought out email thinking anyone will read it or respond. It sounds like this was a shady deal. Read the article on foxsports titled "no wrestling in olympics? Unreal"Light em up! [email protected]
The article claims pentathalon has been voted to keep instead of wrestling. Some of the board members had pentahalon connections and the vote was done by hidden ballot?? Wtf....time for a revolution. This is insane.
I feel bad for most if us as spectators but my God if you were an olympic hopeful for the 2020 olympics like a mark hall....this would turn your life upside down.
I believe this will get worked out when common sense prevails. The article mentions that wrestling is much more popular than pentathalon. Wrestling will stay. I remember the head wrestling coach at miami making a comment at an seminar that basketball is a fad compared to wrestling. Keep the faith and do what you can. I think the table at state is a great idea. Can you guys keep that going through to youth state?
We will do our best to keep the table up through little league state. I will see what I can do to find someone that can run it on Sunday for us and then get the letters back to me.
It comes down to $. NBC paid BILLIONS to broadcast the Olympics and wrestling doesn't get ratings. Heck I had trouble finding it on the channels last time.
They will add golf and rugby, both of which have athletes plastered with endorsements. There are no adverts on wrestling singlets. And also not many eyes on the TV when wrestling is broadcast.
They basically didn't even broadcast wrestling haha
Unbelieveable
Glad they kept badmitmon and pingpong.
Well iv fired off emails. Everyone needs to. I would assume that across the states the wrestling community is up in arms over this. I would say the whole world of wrestling.
if they would show it I'd bet they would get viewers. When I was a kid even before I wrestled I always loved watching the matchsThey basically didn't even broadcast wrestling haha
Not so long ago on this very sight people were making comments duiring the first few days of wrestling in the Olympics about it being boring and the rules ruined it and no flash or flair , only to come back and say it ended up good with Bouroughs taking care of buisness with style , when your own fans bash you it's bad people are quick to down things that are not visually spectacular , most sports are in wrestling at least olympic wrestling it's a chess match at times making it appear less than what it is ,
There have been movements to beef up wrestling like the real Pro wrestling and it may not have hit the mark but it was headed in the right direction ,
It seems impossible that this will stand but if people set by and let it it probably can ,
Hard to believe MMA actually hurts wrestling if it does it seems like a step one could take after a wrestling career , but the real problem
And shame in it all is that had a few individuals with the resources pushed wrestling and added some flair with the popularity that PRO wrestling had a in years past , real wrestling could have been as big as MMA , by not being able to think outside the box or let the established way of doing things go and trying new stuff , wrestling may have shot itself in the foot ,
You need ... Drama and Hype , it creates interest . Interest creates revenue ... And money makes the world go around ,

They need to move wrestling to the Winter Olympics and it would get much better ratings. Plus, it would add a sport to the Winter Olympics that is better represented by the warm weathered countries.

I totally agree with that. Making it a winter sport makes a lot of sense.
The International Olympic Committee is dropping wrestling from competition after the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro, the result of some elaborate secret ballot it holds every so often to determine its 25 "core sports."
In part because golf and rugby are coming to the Olympics, something had to go. This time it was wrestling, apparently edged out by the modern pentathlon for survival.
Statement by USA Wrestling Executive Director Rich Bender on the IOC Executive Committee announcement on wrestling
By Rich Bender USA Wrestling

USA Wrestling is surprised and disappointed about today’s announcement concerning the International Olympic Committee Executive Board recommendation that wrestling not be a core sport included in the 2020 Olympic Games.
Wrestling is one of the sports of the original Greek Olympic Games and in the first modern Olympic Games. It is one of the most diverse sports in the world, with nearly 200 nations from all continents participating in wrestling. It is an inclusive sport which provides opportunities worldwide, regardless of geography, race, gender or physical characteristics.
We look forward to telling the story about wrestling to the International Committee leadership and the entire world about our great sport and why it should be part of the Olympic movement forever.
USA Wrestling pledges to be a leader in the international effort to insure that wrestling remains on the Olympic program. As we continue our leadership in expanding wrestling within our nation, we also will place our full resources and energy behind supporting wrestling on the international level.

Contact the IOC and their sponsors (in a professional manner, of course) and remind them firmly that wrestling is the world's oldest sport and should be in the Olympic Games.

TALKING POINTS ABOUT WRESTLING AND THE OLYMPICS
USA Wrestling has created these talking points for those in the wrestling community in our nation who may be speaking about our sport in light of today's International Olympic Committee announcement. Please read them carefully and refer to them in your public statements.
1) FILA, the international wrestling federation, the U.S. Olympic Committee and USA Wrestling did not expect this announcement. None of these leadership groups anticipated that wrestling was being considered for this.
2) This is a decision by the International Olympic Committee Executive Board. The recommendation is that wrestling not be included as a core sport at the 2020 Olympic Committee. This is not a final decision.
3) The next step is for the IOC Executive Board to recommend a sport for the final spot in the 2020 Olympics. Wrestling will be considered for the position along with seven other sports, which happens in May in St. Petersburg, Russia. Then, the next step is for the entire International Olympic Committee to vote on the final program for the 2020 Olympics, which occurs in September in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
4) This is an opportunity for wrestling to tell its story, not only to the International Olympic Committee leadership but also to the entire world.
5) Wrestling is one of the original sports in the ancient Olympic Games in Greece. Wrestling was also included in the first modern Olympic Games in 1896.
6) Wrestling is one of the most diverse sports in the world, with nearly 200 nations from all continents participating in the sport.
7) Wrestling is an inclusive sport which provides opportunities worldwide, regardless of geography, race, gender or physical characteristics. Anybody can wrestle.
8) Among Olympic sports, wrestling has more variety of nations which win Olympic medals than almost every other sport. Wrestling is popular all around the world, and many nations have successful athletes and programs in the sport.
9) This is a challenge for the entire wrestling community on the world level. USA Wrestling, as the national governing body in the United States, is putting its full energy and resources behind this. We will work with our wrestling brothers and sisters everywhere on earth to maintain our sport on the Olympic program.
10) Wrestlers are known for their work ethic. As a community, we will work tirelessly from this point forward letting the world know about why wrestling is so special. We believe that we have the ability to be successful
11) Be honest. Explain why wrestling is so important to you, and also important to the world. Do not be negative or critical of the IOC. It is our job to make them our supporters and allies moving forward.
12) USA Wrestling’s Executive Committee, Board of Directors, staff and leaders are already involved working on this issue. We will continue to update the wrestling community about what is going on.
13) What can you do right now? Stay informed. Join “Keep Wrestling In the Olympics” Facebook page, which is can be found at Keep Wrestling in the Olympics Facebook Page Updates will be posted regularly.
