KentuckyWrestling.com 2013 State Tournament Rankings - February 14

Topic ID: 9403 | 49 Posts

First of all, a huge thank you to everyone involved in the ranking committee and Coach McCoy for organizing it. Hours and hours of research went into every win and loss on TrackWrestling and the ScoreBook. At first we only planned to rank the top 10, but everyone wanted to include more kids because we felt we owe it to these wrestlers for all the hard work they have put in.

The committee is made up of parents, coaches, moderators, and even your favorite sports journalist. The word on the street is Ranger still plans to do his Ranger Report, so keep a look out for that (going on 5 years)! We all owe Ranger a steak dinner for doing this for so long. With that being said, go ahead, rip apart these rankings...

See you in Lexington...

(I will update with the tournament team ranking after they get verified)

Good job.  I think at 138 Jake Sander should be in there.  He just beat Drew Harris

285 Lawson pinned lord

Thanks to all on the committee. That was a huge undertaking. I knew it was a lot of work, and I can't imagine doing all that alone.

Wow, I'm missing ranger already. These are not good. You have kids ranked above others who teched them 15-0.

Great job. I wouldn't pay attention to the haters. I know you guys worked your butts off and put a lot if effort into this. I'm sure the pay was great too. Lol!! Inevitably, there are going to be disagreements from people. This is not a perfect science. However, if you do disagree, support your disagreement with specific examples. Raider, if you're gonna say these are terrible and you miss Ranger, tell us which kid or kids you think are ranked too low. Maybe you'll be proven right this weekend or just maybe you'll have to eat crow.

Lets just say I know one kid who teched a 14, majored a 7 twice, dec a 9, and lost in ot to another 9 and didn't get ranked. His in state losses were to a 1, a 2(twice) the ot loss to a 9, and one bad loss to a unrated kid. Certainly a better resume than many ranked at his weight.

Good ranking's however you are Underestimating Jerry Haywood at 160 from Fort Campbell. Haywood beat Sam Schwacter and Jared Whitlock.

I believe raider is talking about jake sanders. Who I also agree will place this year at state

Thanks for putting them out. Have to admit it sucked checking every week and not having anything new. I always thought it had to be a huge undertaking for one guy witha job and coaching his boys, so can't bitch about it. It's cool when they use the rankings during the state tourney to announce matches....especially when a couple of heavy hitters are facing off. A sincere thanks.

182 rankings are worthless. Fooks soundly beat 4 of your top 9 and he is 10? Chamblee should be ranked 1. Did any of you guys go to the dragon?

I believe raider is talking about jake sanders. Who I also agree will place this year at state

Jake sanders would have been my second example. I'm talking about another jake.

Jake sanders would have been my second example. I'm talking about another jake.

What is the deal, why are you being so cryptic? Just say his name.

Young has pinned Raynel Brown in the second period at the Ryle Tournament.  He has also won in a 3-0 deciscion against Lawson in the finals of the Ft. Knox Invitational.

Thank you guys for all you do.  I know that this had to be a large job and took a lot of hours.  It would be impossible to know all that has happened this year.  Good job by all!!

Most of these guys have very similar records. Its going to boil down to who brings thier A game Friday and Saturday.

182 rankings are worthless. Fooks soundly beat 4 of your top 9 and he is 10? Chamblee should be ranked 1. Did any of you guys go to the dragon?

Carman has one loss to McDaniel which he avenged with a major. Chamblee just lost to Matthews last week.  I think you can make a decent case for any of the top 3 but to definitively say Chamblee should be #1 is fairly dismissive of 1) his loss last weekend and 2) the resume of the other guys at the top.

Raider....and another Jake? He's talking about Jake Erdman. Lost to Heidorf, parrot 3 times, fauz, kid from central at dragon. He failed to mention that the 7 he's beat twice is at 120! There's too much info out there for you to be cryptic, so don't be a hater.

the only wt. class I know really well is 106 and you guys did a good job on that wt. class. thanks for all the work.

Erdman could have been in there, he was in the discussion, but it probably came down to not having any wins against top 10 guys (in that weight), but he did tech-fall Beeler at the Rumble, so he could have fallen in there but that was a really early tournament.

We basically only had 2 days this time to put something out and everyone is busy with state tournament, so some kids probably got missed.

Great observation.

Erdman's only rankable win was over Beeler. Wins over kids bumping up were fairly low on my criteria. However I will say Beeler was one of the last guys in and I can easily see Erdman finishing higher then Beeler

Gotta love the haters.

So I went through and tried to figure out how many placers each region had in these rankings. Before I post this I want it to be known that I missed 5 placers and caught myself making mistakes several times. So if anyone has the time to go through again and check my math, I would greatly appreciate it.

There should be 112 placers this is off the 107 I counted semi-succesfully

1. Region 6 (22)

2. Region 1 (21)

3.  Region 4 (15)

4. Region 7 (14)

5t. Region 8 (10)

5t. Region 2 (10)

7. Region 5 (8)

8. Region 3 (7)

Thank you all for all the hard work and time it took to do these. If anyone thinks they did a bad job, then ask to be on the committee and help out. Easy solution.

Why does everyone get so worked up about these rankings? They don't give out trophies or medals for them. They still have to wrestle, I appreciate the time and effort that it takes to try and rank kids from all over the state. There will always be someone upset because their child wasn't on the list, my son wasn't on anyone's list til the last couple of weeks and I wasn't upset because I know he's new to the sport so I didn't take it personally.

Since 182 was brought up, thought I would use it to dee how the guys did on ranking the kids before state.

Rankings before-

1. B.J. Carman, LaRue Co., 12, 53-1 2. Hiero Chamblee, Simon Kenton, 12, 41-6 3. Eli Matthews, Campbell Co., 10, 50-4 4. Devin Morrow, Wayne Co., 12, 46-2 5. Brandon Pledger, St. Xavier, 12, 34-5 6. Sam Steele, Boone Co., 12, 42-3 7. Evan Kenealy, Meade Co., 12, 32-6 8. Kohl Dodd, Fern Creek, 10, 46-10

State results-

1st Place - Hiero Chamblee of Simon Kenton 2nd Place - Brandon Pledger of St. Xavier 3rd Place - Bj Carman of LaRue County 4th Place - Eli Matthews of Campbell County 5th Place - Devin Morrow of Wayne County 6th Place - Sam Steele of Boone County 7th Place - Michael Saunders of Bullitt Central 8th Place - Evan Kenealy of Meade County

Looks to me like they did a pretty good job. Were not all in the right places, but they had 7 of the right guys who placed.

Elijah Miller 195 & Sam Schwachter 160 are from Scott not Scott Co.

Thanks

FCHS/JCU125  Do you know how many placers each Region actually had at the State Tournament?

7. Region 5 (8)

8. Region 3 (7)

Region 6 had 26 placers

I could go through and count as soon as my computer boots back up. It doesn't warn me when it is low battery anymore for some reason

By my count, already expect it to be off. So if some other people can go through and just count for one region each we will have an accurate count

Region 1- 15

Region 2- 13

Region 3- 9

Region 4- 17

Region 5- 5

Region 6- 23

Region 7- 15

Region 8- 7

I missed 8 placers, it is hard because I have to constantly check which schools are in each region since I don't know them all off the top of my head.

Everyone is off, region 6 had 27 placers

106 - Scaggs

113 - Maggard

120 - Adams, Owens

126 - Parrott

132 - Fausz

138 - Hamilton, Sander

145 - Jackson, Woods, Belk

152 - Cooper, Jones

160 - Myers

170 - Jones, Meiman, Turner

182 - Chamblee, Matthews, Steele

195 - Miller, Thompson

220 - Myers, Maine, Mueller

285 - Miskell, Weber

That should give some perspective to those people who feel Region 6 is over rated. They were actually under rated in the rankings. Was the next closest region 4 with 17 placers?

Region definately underperformed at state. We didn't have any placers from 170 and up with a couple kids just missing at the lighter weights. If I was to guess it went

Region 6

Region 4

Region 7

Region 1 (I have them tied with region 7, but I might've shorted region 7)

Region 2

Region 3

Region 8

Region 5

The thing is that even with 27 placers region 6 also underperformed.  I count several additional kids that I'm a little surprised they didn't place, but that's why we wrestle the matches.

What would be interesting is if someone has the time to figure out how next years realignment would have affected the numbers.  Region 6 would have had 26 with the realignment.

Region 4 had 2 placers  at 126 that were ranked not to place.

OK I went ahead and did the stats. Here is the outcome.

Have fun with the numbers

I'd say region 6 was extremely successful.

It would be awesome to have region all star dual teams

That is what it would look like if we would have been in the new alignment in 2012-13! The following is how many total placers, senior placers and the percentage of returning placers for each region according to the new alignment.

R1---15---6---60%

R2---14---10---29%

R3---8---6---25%

R4---17---8---53%

R5---15---5---75%

R6---24---12---50%

R7---12---5---58%

R8---6---5---17%

Looks like region 5 will be strong next year!

There was a total of 57 senior state placers 1-8 out of 112 total state placers. So 51% of our state placers were seniors!

Everyone is off, region 6 had 27 placers

106 - Scaggs

113 - Maggard

120 - Adams, Owens

126 - Parrott

132 - Fausz

138 - Hamilton, Sander

145 - Jackson, Woods, Belk

152 - Cooper, Jones

160 - Myers

170 - Jones, Meiman, Turner

182 - Chamblee, Matthews, Steele

195 - Miller, Thompson

220 - Myers, Maine, Mueller

285 - Miskell, Weber

Miskell is the only region 6 placer that would have been realigned.

I think maybe you mixed up Scott Co. and Scott High school.

Scott Co. took no wrestlers to the state tourney.

It happens A LOT!! And it kinda drives me crazy! I think next year instead of my typical Scott Eagle shirts that I buy, I am going to get made...we are NOT Scott Co shirts, lol.
