Carr’s Wrestling Academy Mission Statement

Carr Wrestling Academy is committed to training the students in a system to be the best wrestler they can be in three areas; Mental (attitude/toughness), physical (technique) and social(ethics/faith/respect), as well as developing confidence, self-discipline, and a strong work ethic for the rest of their life.

The plan and vision for students at the Carr Wrestling Academy is to give them tools and skills to compete on any level of wrestling and to apply these skills in life. We not only believe that you will become the best wrestler that you can be but you will be able to teach what you know. If you can teach and demonstrate what you have learned then you are ready to compete with the best.   This will take time, just as the process of developing champions takes dedication, hard work, and time.

The goal is to build a system of wrestling that will enhance a dedicated wrestler's to excel at any level and transfer these skills to the real world for the rest of their life.

You can get these results:

  • Dominating takedowns
  • Getting off the bottom
  • Riding, Tilting, and Pinning
  • Learning the details, drills, and strategies of these techniques
  • Making champions the norm instead of the exception

Here's the secret. Learn the principle behind the hold and then learn the details to make the hold work. We do it for all holds, in every position, all of the time.

  • High level set-ups to put you in position to score
  • High level finishes to score your points
  • Drills and situation wrestling to make learning easier and faster

                                         Carr Wrestling System

We've helped produce:

8 STATE TEAM CHAMPIONS

6 STATE DUALS TEAM CHAMPIONS

Finish in the top three for 18 straight years

We train our champions to master new positions and new technique. The way we teach and train is so simple that anybody can learn. You see and hear our Coaches putting the wrestlers in the proper position and tell them, head up, back up, hip in, drive up and lift and next time you see them in a match they will be using the new technique to win. This happens day after day, week after week, year after year, producing state champions, state champion teams, and All-Americans. This is the Carr Wrestling System. This is what you are getting when you invest in our System. This system is the results of a life-long influence of nationally known Coaches and the influence of the Granby system. Ours Coaches (Joe Carr Sr. and Joe Carr Jr.) typically attends NCAA, World, and Olympic Championships to, to study wrestling technique and the teaching strategies for implementing them and bringing them back to our club and Academy. You will see our method and technique use nationally by top ranked college and high school teams.

What Can CWA Do For You?

Most wrestlers and coaches use individual a single holds to attack their opponent. They try it once, try it again, and try it again. They soon find out that opponents can easily defend one individual hold. What we do is teach several different holds and put them together in a series or a system so that you can smoothly move from one technique to the next, depending on the reactions of your opponent. This gives you the ability to maintain an almost constant attack. In other words, CWA shows you the best techniques and how to put them together in a systematic approach that is difficult to defend.

Top work

We will teach you pressure ride that includes breaking your opponents down and controlling them for pins and tilts. The details of capturing the arm, constant pressure, hooks, and bars will make you very effective on top. These techniques will prepare you for greater success with the Cradle and the Turk. From the dominating riding and scoring to the pinning of Cradles and Turks, you have a system of top work that makes you a constant threat to your opponents.

Bottom work

With the CWA, you have a hold that is open when there is pressure riding or tight riding. If pressured, the Granby is very tough to stop.  If a wrestlers ride loose to defend the Granby, you will have the opportunity to switch to the Shrug or stand up because it is easier to execute against a loose rides. The combination of the three holds will conquer both the tight and the loose rider, giving you a system of bottom work that is very difficult to handle. These hold won’t works if you cannot stop the top man's techniques. This is where CWA, comes in to complete the System of bottom work. We will teach you, the techniques to block, defend and stop the top man's moves to put yourself in a position to do the Granby, Shrug or stand up. Learning either the Granby or the Shrug makes you a better wrestler, but having all three makes you virtually impossible to ride.

Takedowns

The Carr ABC system is well organized and planned out sessions with High Intensity Wrestling (HIW), focused drill and situation. Being exposed to random wrestling techniques does not guarantee success. Wrestling is a position based sport, not move based. We emphasize position first and move second. We will teach you the most effective series of takedowns in wrestling. You will learn the high crotch, single, double leg, opposite leg, set-ups, and finishes. Instruction also includes using body position, body control, head control, angles, and leverage to make this series work successfully. You will learn (The Sweep Single). This is a single that is quick and is easy to finish. The Sweep Single works in combination with the Inside Step and head snap down. When an opponent defends against one, the other is open. The other big area is takedowns defense. Counter offense and defense, as you will learn will expose your opponent for easy takedown point. You will learn front headlock, butt drags and go-behinds that are extremely effective. If you've learned the positioning techniques with all three takedowns give you superior attacks on both leg and great defense at the same time.
