Coaches,
As many of you are noticing this year at KY USAW tournaments, we are asking for your Coaches card for free entry into the events. If you do not have an active coaches card, you pay at the door. This is to encourage coaches and parent coaches to get there coaches card for coaching in corners and the benefit of having proper insurance that will and is required in all other states for events. Along with coaching benefits offered by USA Wrestling.
Coaches cards are purchased online that includes a background check for $50 and is good from September 1st thru August31st annually.
Another issue is coaches Education. We offer Copper Level (geared toward the volunteer coach or parent) and bronze level for the coaches ( more advanced coachimg techniques) that are with the wrestlers every day. These are also needed for coaches to have mat side priviledges in other state and National events. Most of you know that you can get matside but it cost you a fee. This will be utilized in the coming years within KY as it is in all other states. KY USAW is working to bring our coaches and wrestlers to a national level as with other states.
Copper and bronze level courses are a one time cost and good for the rest of your career.

USA Wrestling Coaches Card Theme

I'm sorry, but this bothers me. I understand having the coaches card, sort of..... but training? Seriously? I will have to say, with everything that a coach has to do these days, sometimes I wonder if it is worth it. First it was the weight assessments, then trackwrestling, now with USA and KWCA there are rather large fees. And all for what? At the end of the day it is all a machine to make money. Everybody wants to host tournaments and have a thousand kids wrestle, why? It's not about the growth, its about the money. I have never let money be a reason for a kid not to wrestle. I have always supplimented whatever was needed. Everyone wants to "fix" things and make it better. It's not better, none of it. It's all a big pain in the ass. Maybe its time for this old dog to hang it up. Too many changes and not enough money to keep up. This isn't anything personal with anyone, just a frustraded coach letting off steam.
This Training is Sport specific (wrestling) How many parents or volunteers have never been involved with wrestling until there kids get involved? These programs give them a heads up on the sport and helps them to learn the sport of wrestling at a basic level and help the coach in the process with his or her volunteers. More educated parents and volunteers are a win for our cause to grow the sport. It's not about the money. KY USAW does not make a dime. Again its to help market our sport to the public.
