A lot of Kentucky wrestlers signed up , any insight by anyone on the tournament , talk speculation , who has a chance at snatching an AA or a win ???????
NHSCA , grade level Nationals , Sr Nationals !!!!!

Out of the Seniors it looks like Stephen will go AA......Is that Paul Longshore Hamilton ?????? Love the name change if it is....I see Wade Willen in there as well, always tough and can do very well....Luke Rearic will be there at 113 and his shoulder is all healed up and ready to redeem a little... he hopes....only 23 in his weight....
Lets all hook up down there if we can......I know Brock will be there in Juniors and should rock the house.....My money is on Brock
Also I know Mike Whalen will be there and can do very well along with the Hernandez brothers from Henry Clay....
Should be a nice trip.....a little beach, some seafood and wrestling.....best place to be if you ask me....IM me Mpire if you can and we can hookup down there.
Tough classes saw Rearic PH and Stephen missed WW good
Luck to him and all the srs and wrestlers WW deserves some props , two four timers in Stephens class not to mention everyone else , PH has some
Wrong seeding info not good in this tourny I would think ,hope it gets changed , four SRS from Ky , not going to discuss Injuries it's a no no come tourney time but all the ky kids are gamers ,
I would say Brock has a great shot hope he and Fausz are in finals Fausz has been awfully sharp , ATM is on a mission healthy as a horse but a tougher class than last yr for sure , Like to see a lot of AA come back to Ky last hoorah for some
Srs hope they leave it all on the mat .
Hope ATM makes it two in a row and shuts up the haters .
Where are the Ohio and PA studs? What else is going on?
Quite a few going to FloNationals......I know Boston and Clay are....
Austin should be able to get it again......All of it ! Good to see Sean in there at 126.......Would not a 126 Junior Final of Ervin and Fausz be awesome for this state ?
I saw some kids from St X going and Harrison County........John Shirkey will be there and I expext John will go VERY deep into the Sophomore bracket......Could be a good showing for Kentucky at both Flo and NHSCA !!!!!!!!
Shirkey is very good and has been training hard whenever I have seen him like to see him do well along with everyone else ,I did see more Ohio kids in the tournament last year it seems and with flo where it is more Pa kids would probably opt for it same as the Ohio kids as for the rest of the country I saw a lot of studs from California and the Midwest in the brackets , the timing of the two big tournaments is not only suspect but the reasons for it are well known , NHSCA with its wider brackets and broke down grade levels gives this tournament a different feel and angle for many , with SRs being the original purpose it still seems the highlight of the tournament .
Imagine being a senior wrestling what is quite possibly the last big tournament of your High School career in front of one of the most highly watched tournaments in the country as far as college coaches go and otherwise , pretty intense stuff .
Brock and Fausz could very well meet up in the finals and it would be huge ,
Campbell County is sending eight kids ,Ky could have placers in every grade level with Srs definatly having it harder than the other grade levels with the big numbers and talent in that div .
With so many kids from Ky in this tournament it seems it would be blown up on this forum , guess its after season and everyone is hyped up on the whole team KY thing because of last yes success there but this tournament is much more highly contested although on a bit more of an individual basis , after this week and next I suppose all focus should swing towards Fargo and ending what has been a drought of success for ky there but I have not seen many if any kids in our area even seem slightly interested in going ,
Not changing the subject just commenting on the summer tournaments I don't think it's so much the trip or distance that keeps kids away as much as their is no focus in the summer on Freestyle Greco , a lot if save the Olympics hype but very little lets actually wrestle freestyle Greco or start to at least , at least in our area of NKY ,
A big tournament in a fun location a great deal for all the wrestlers making the trip this week , lets hope for some
Nice weather and some big wins
Got a few going to Usaw folkstyle nationals this coming weekend as well.
Good luck to all
Two weekends in a row for Team Kentucky to shine......Best of luck to all this week and for Team Kentucky in Indiana next week......I have a feeling Kentucky will be on the map as a powerhouse after this year.....Our kids CAN compete !
Good luck to everyone safe trip and bring back some hardware from where we your headed this week , !!!!!!!! And next
I second that good luck to everyone. Mpire is Austin going to nhsca?
NHSCA , grade level nationals , yes he's on his way and on a collision course with some east coast studs ,very different styles ATM giving up a lot of height and reach to some we will see how he does at 220 again .
Team Ky looking impressive......in the round of 16 that I know of.....Mike Whelan, Sean Fausz, Brock Ervin, Austin Meyers, John Shirkey, Hudson Heirdorf, Chris Beeler...and some more I think.......AWESOME showing today.....Looking more and more like a Fausz-Ervin matchup possibly in 126 Final
Seniors weigh in in a few......and start tomorrow
GO Team KY !!!!!!!
The lower grades are tough but the srs are stacked from top to bottom , everyone has to qualify pretty much for srs while the lower grades you just have to enter , good luck to everyone
What are the qualifications for Srs? When i was looking at the list over half of the kids did not place at state.
I wish Flo and NHSCA would put their differnces aside so that Senior Nationals could go back to the way it was which was you had to be a state finalist or petition in.
To qualify for Senior Nationals you have to have placed 1st or 2nd at your state tournament some time during your high school career. I think you can petition to get in if had not placed 1st or 2nd.
Nationals are today !!!!!!!
Any updates
Im not sure of exact updates, but Ill do my best. Please correct me if Im wrong. Paul Hamilton lost by pin early. Came back and won another I heard, but cant swear to it. I think Trevor Thompson won 1 lost 2? I know he hurt his elbow, wrapped and swollen. Steffan Myers tech falled Oregon State Champ. Then won another tough one to Colorado wrestler, not sure of his ranking. Austin Myer wrestled twice, both pins, has wrestled less than 1:20 total. Im sorry I don't have more updates, as I am following 4 other Ohio wrestlers as well. More wrastlin tomorrow. I would advise anybody that can make this tourney next year, do it. Two college fairs, one Sat for underclassman, one Sunday for seniors. I personally bumped into 4 different college coaches at four different times. And saw several more. Good wrestling, good opportunities, good location.
Thanks i tried looking on trackwrestling but no luck
Shirkey lost in round of 8. Won his next match and will be in the medal round tomorrow. Hudson Heidorf is in the semis - no worse than 6th. Ervin and Fausz in semis on opposite sides of the bracket. Austin Myers dominating. Stephen looking good. So far 5 all Americans with more possible.
Thats awesome good luck tomorrow
The NHSCA site has updates and yappi has a link to the classes that leads to results ,
This tournament is insane kids who are all good from all over the country matching up with no clue of each others styles or strengths or weaknesses , its unreal , srs in particular who are all studs you have to be a great wrestler just to win one match in srs , and to place in the other grades you have to be top notch ,
One mistake in a match you are controlling and it could be lights out ,
Busy with my own after a long drive without any sleep making it hard to focus but I saw PH in a match make a mistake or two and lose but come back and win later saw Rearic controlling a match ease up for an instant and lose Fausz and Brock are tearing it up Mathews has won and lost Trevor the same guess he is out know saw his arm bandaged pretty heavy tough matches take their toll , will say the bracketing is odd top seeds with more matches seems odd to me but its wafr beginning to end , like to see Shirkys matches I enjoy his style think he has a great future same for willing missed some , hope to see all of em that are left tomorrow ,
As for my own boys never been prouder Stephen hammered a good kid and just missed a few scores early on another hit behind and tied it up and scored late in the third , more heart than anyone knows , still has some things to work on like everyone else PH should have went 140 Stephen 145 but who knows they look comfortable .
ATM two quick pins and a point to make ,
Stronger for sure since state and wrestling better as well great position and actually saw him get a little mad his second match not sure why maybe being out I the gym and wrestling room makes him edgy , he knows this is the real deal nothing but top notch best of the beat comp left for him and everyone else .some oh teams brought huge numbers very impressive as is CC with a large group .
Stephen has a stud from NY first of tomorrow
ATM has a beast from Brandon a Fl 3rd placer .
And a date with a top 20 intermat wrestler . He has done all he can since state to improve and hopefully it pays off , Stephen had some injuries but actually trained through them showing me he still has the desire it takes to be great . Very proud and very proud I our Ohio friends and all the ky fans at NHSCA ,
Not sure about everyone in Ky but the real wrestling fans from ky at NHSCA cheered greatly for ATM and he responded with a very intense showing , I say he gets it done a HUGE match between him and Chekonis a 13th ranked intermat wrestler Is possible in the finals totally different styles and wrestlers , four of the top six Soph wrestlers at 220 in the nation squaring off tomorrow with the eventual winner probably laying claim rightfully to the top spot .
Hope they mix it up and don't run around and make it boring.
Team Ky results after day 1 srs , day two fresh Soph Jrs ,
Srs 1 ch 2 co
Jrs 2 ch
Soph 1 ch 1 co
Fresh 1 ch
Srs , still in I assume Stephen in ch Paul Hamilton and either Rearic or Willen in co ,
Jrs Fausz and Ervin in ch
Soph ATM and Shirkey
Fresh I am unsure I know Grazianni is there as a Fresh not sure who else .
Most grade levels are around mid range as far as scoring in the 20s jrs and Soph have great chance of making top 20 as far as team scores fresh I'm unsure with only 1 it may be hard to do well and srs still have two whole days of wrestling left ,
5 alive in ch rd but an impossibility to have two jr champs but a very possible champ runner up scenario .
Grazianni is out in fresh ! Who is the Ky frosh still in ch I am sure it's a lighter weight ??? Don't want to leave anyone out who is battling it out today !!!!!!!
Wade Willen was unable to compete due to another setback with mono, which kept him out of postseason also. Good luck to the Kentucky boys!
Brock is in finals fauez lost 6-5 got taken down in the final 15 seconds was in a great scramble when it occurred
Thanks for the update Mpire! Lets us know how bad ATM kicks Clenkois ass! And let us know how Stephan is doing
Is there any live streaming video of the matches?
Stephen loses a heartbreaker to a multiple time AA from NY Chris Koo 9-8 still in the hunt but a long road ahead PH loses a great match against a tank 2-1 very impressive match for him any way kid was jacked an athleti no td PH with an escape an the other kid with a reversal , Stephen needs 3 wins to place a tall order in this environment ATM takes out enmon from Fl 8-1 in the finals with Chikenones needless to say it is intense , our good friend from moe Joe Hensley is in the finals at 220 I'm the fresh division lol two partners in finals two yrs in a row training hard all summer hell yeah that's how we roll my dogs kickin ass. Stephen has only to work on his condition and this would be a much easier environment was winni g 8-4 after first and gassed a bit . Brock tearing it up Rearic still In

Heidorf is the other frosh, last I saw last night he was in the semi's.
Heidorf placed sixth or fifth I think not sure her his name called Kys first AA of the tourny great job , and a stud , lol I saw h wrestle earlier in the yr woul have never guessed he was a fresh ,very impressive
Stephen fires back winnining 9-3 in his conso in the third and gets a pin , still alive needs two more wins to place
Stephen gets another win 3-1 , one more to place , the big one ,
Stephen wins again 10-5 , Stephen Myers is a sr All American , wrestling smart showing heart ,
Ky has AAs at every grade level !!!!!
I predicted Stephan would finish top 4 before the event and ATM would bring home the gold! Go get'em boys!
"ATM "Austin Tyler Myers , NHSCA 220lb Sophmore National Champion and two time NHSCA Nat Champ , two x KY State Champ an Still ......undefeated wrestler ,
ATM beats Intermat 13 ranked wrestler in the nation at 220 Chekonis of New Jersey 3-1 ,
ATM sends his regards to all the Haters , the Kentuckian works his but of and the Mpire CC and KY has two brothers AA at nationals ....
Sean Fausz takes fifth , Brock Ervin wins beating Tutolo sp of Ohio at 126 !!! Ky has two nat champs at NHSCA Heidorf , Shirkey ATM Brock Fausz and Stephen all place , Stephen still battling ,

AWESOME!!! And congrats to your boys Mpire
Congrats to all of the KY guys!! Way to go ATM!
Thanks , very very proud and happy Stephen has trained hard the last few weeks working through some pain and it payed of , strange before he left he put all his medals trophies and plaques back up in his room now I guess they can stay , can't ask for anything more , still think he should have went 145 + 3 and PH 140 , but its all good being a senior All American is one of the goals and things I have heard about in the sport for years , he proved everything he ever had to to everyone .
And Austin has trained harder than ever in the gym and whenever I could get them some mat time he still has room for improvement as far as wrestling goes and we will work on that , nice showing for Ky CC , nationals are a different world hard to wrestle perfect every match and figure out kids on the spot ,
Brock , Austin winning is huge as is any one who places there its unreal tough , now Austin has one goal left this yr an that's FARGO and to try and AA there . Back to work Monday for him .
Proud to be a Kentuckian!
Nathan Boston won flo nationals at 113.
Congrats to Brock!!!!! His class was a barnburner! 68 wrestler..something like 16 state champs. That's a huge win for the state of kentucky!
Great job by coach B and Fausz handling the CC crew and big dog Trevor Thompson this week ,
Glad Stephen made the podium to keep everyone around another day to see some wrestling
It will benifit everyone you never know what you will learn or pick up watching the best of the best wrestle . Stephen says sr AA should get an extra day of spring break. Odd not seeing him in the rankings he worked so hard to be in for yrs , guess they wrote him off to quickly .
Tons of college coaches at NHSCA but in the intense environment it's hard to actually mingle and talk with them it seems
Congrats to Austin's bro and training partner Joe Hensley for his runner up spot in the fresh 220 class a hard close match he easily could have won losing by a point in a match with some odd calls , I see a bright future for him at Moeller .
Stephen advances 9-5 win over a NY stud Schoeffler sp ? Did himself proud one of the best matches of his life ! 5 slide byes people great shot defense and a good escape and he is a mat General .
Stephen loses in OT to Wilson of California , Stephen is a Beast ,
Well done young man! 4th place in guessing?
Stephen takes a loss , 5-2 , takes sixth , busted hand hurt shoulder , still won a match today and battled hard. . Think healthy he would have been third or better who knows great career and great way to wrap it up moving up a spot from last yr and ending up a sr ALL American , great job coach B and Faust and thanks to all the coaches who worked with the boys this yr every yr and the last few years ,
Just want to congratulate all of our young men on their accomplishments this past weekend
Congrats to all the wrestlers and coaches Great Job! Mpire congrats to your boys they always fun to talk with.
Thanks , a great weekend , sorry myself and everyone missed the Meade
County wrestler Chris Beeler a 3rd
Placer at state 113 hate to leave anyone out but it wasn't organized by the state and he snuck in on us he was in Soph and ha a rough one but to take this tournament on is saying a lot state champs and studs all over with around 2000 competitors or so , congrats to him on his efforts things like this will pay off for him !!!
How did the jr high kids end up !!!!
Stephens win today moves Kys srs ahead of a coupe states , worth the pain I guess ky ends up 37 in srs
Congrats!
So KY sent some studs to Flo and to NHSCA. I heard some kids went to Iowa as well. If a kid is wanting to get noticed which tourney is the place to go? I know Flo was always THE tourney, but things have diluted out a little lately, so which one is it?

From what I have seen, USAW Folkstyle is the place for the younger (pre-HS) ages. For the hs guys both flo and nhsca have great talent and get a lot of exposure. I'm sure college coaches/scouts were all over both events. Nhsca does provide the better spring break vacation spot assuming the weather cooperates.
I guess as far as having more top ranked guys per weight-class FLO is the best. But NHSCA was really tough at certain classes too. Both fantastic tournaments and a great showing by KY at both.
Congrats Myers Bros, Ervin and everyone else who wrestled this weekend! You did the state proud.
Flo is only a couple years old, their goal is to be the major tournament at this time of year. Right now I still think NHSCA has slightly more prestige, at least at the senior level. But basically the two major offseason events are Dapper Dan and Fargo and college coaches will always be eyeing those two. The problem with Flo, NHSCA, and USAW is that they are all watered down because they compete with each other. Flo does film your matches for you and gives their champs a lot of publicity which is very helpful when it comes to attracting college coaches.

Flo Is only a few yrs old ??

Flo Is only a few yrs old ?? But backed by a very popular media outlet , NHSCA has been around for a long time and determines traditionally recognized all Americans at each level particularly Srs , I think flo hasn't even been around for 5 yrs !!! So it couldn't really always be the Tourny perhaps very popular since its inception , not sure about the others .
Flo's first year was in 2010. I would know, I went to it. I was one of maybe 3 Kentucky boys who won a match, I got a really lucky draw and had a scrub for my first consi match. I ended up losing to a kid by the name of Willie Bohince (or maybe it was Ryan) who is now a potential D2 National Champ next year. The first year there the general consensus was that there were plenty of good underclassman in attendance, but all the good seniors were at NHSCA. When it comes to publicity Bader and Joe love their champs and try to give them as much exposure as they can. But like I said at the bottom of the previous page, NHSCA is a lot more prestigious.
Dapper Dan is this upcoming week right?

Couple weeks too late on dapper dan. It was a couple weekends ago in pa.

Yep, and what a bummer it is. I would love to see some cooperation between these events. Spread 'em out a little so a kid can hit more than one, assuming funds are available.

I haven't been around my PA boys lately, usually they keep me updated on this stuff

They talked to the Flo guys about changing the date, tying it together with Dapper Dan was a popular suggestion. But from what I know, the tournaments won't be fixing this anytime soon. At least all the studs will be at Fargo
Yep Fargo is one of a kind

I was only tracking two from KY. Roger Young Jr (119) from Meade Co. and Ryder Corbin (127) form FT Campbell. They both had very difficult brackets and both went two and out. Each wrestled extremely well and went down swinging. I was actually surprised these were the only two Jr High wrestlers from KY. I thought for sure more would have gone. I can only talk for my son (Roger Jr), He gained allot of knowledge and more respect for the sport. If anything he left more hungry and determined to return next year with a goal to place in the top eight in the Freshman Division. Roger SR.

I agree. Next yr I will be bringing a lot more kids. Our spring break was a week earlier so my parents did not want to take kids out of school for nationals.

So you only took Ki and Corbin? NHSCA's have to lineup with Easter Break at least once in my lifetime. They always happen right when I go back to college
Thanks for the update Mpire! Lets us know how bad ATM kicks Clenkois ass! And let us know how Stephan is doing
A great boost from home when some up north were predicting a loss for ATM , it matters , Stephen comes back strong with an AA at nationals after a bit of a letdown at state .
You can't ask for anything more than for your last High school tournament to be SR nationals and end up a SR All American ,went through High school making the podium at every tournament he ever entered national or not , I did my job he did his I wouldn't change very much an what I would I will with Austin , Stephen was a great leader for his brother for the most part now we will finish what we started long ago , it will be all out go NHSCA and another win for Austin next yr it gets tougher but so does he he wants Four at state and NHSCA , but right now he wants two from Fargo two placings wether they are both 8th doesn't matter a double AA is his goal now !

Any word on when Stephen will be making his college decision? This is one of the best classes Kentucky has had maybe ever
Mpire- I remember a few years ago I was hanging out with some people from Moe and said Stephan was already receiving info Cornell and Rutgers? I know historically Rutgers doesn't recruit outside of NJ or PA- any truth to this? You can shoot me a Pm if you like.
Stephen was getting a lot of interest from Stanford his fresh yr and the next kind of fell of when we came to ky it seemed a lot of schools that were interested in him changed , not going to lie I talked to Rutgers coach a bit and some other very nice schools , Stephen is a kid and feels he has to make his own choices , Columbia , U Penn Lehigh all showed interest not sure what the deal was perhaps moving to ky scared them or perhaps a loss at state did either way Stephen was still small even at 152 + 3 at NHSCA doubt he wrestles that weight in college at least a a fresh , he proved to me and everyone he can hang with anyone , he teched a two time state champ right of the bat at NHSCA and the oh posters reported he was the one who got teched , yet when he AA none of them said a word , just not sure yet he has a lot of friends at Nitre dame but he has a lot of decisions to make . They seemed to think he was going D1 regardless not sure why but maybe he will , I know he can hang D1 or anywhere , he was never even majored in HS even as a fresh against a four time champ like Guillibon "penn State wrestler now I think "

Stephens has friends from Ohio signed with Rutgers , and they seemed to have no real issues with out of state kids , Stephen wrestled at Powerade and placed high there and won some really big tournys in Pa as a youth jr high kid he would fit in I'm sure , U Penn has some Ohio kids and former off season teammates of Stephens on their team Ian Korb , a great kid think he made NCAA tournament this yr !!!
I have opinions on certain coaching staffs I've shared with Mpire. There are definitely things I could say about Coach Goodale especially in light of calls to be more critical of head coaches but I'm gonna let it be here. I personally still want Stephen to come to good ol JCU but that isn't happening. 149 might be his best fit in college
I agree , he looked ok at nat but was definatly smaller than nearly everyone he wrestled perhaps all of them a far as lean mass is considered he was a bit shorter than most but I don't think it was a factor in any of his matches as far as height goes , when he was hurt he out slicked some of his opponents and that impressed me as much as anything he has ever done . He could add 10 and still cut back to 149 making him legit there and that's what I would do if I were him hit about 170 167 at least then come back down , shredded wheat , I know other kids go higher and cut more , just what I would do , have no clue where he is going for sure all I know is he is as legit and worthy as anyone for any level in college and in a hard room with great partners he will improve , ODU sent quite a lot to the NCAA an he has talked to them a lot Notre Dame made top three in d2 and he has visited and worked with them a lot , I would love to see Stephen in a remote good school where he could focus rather than "party " or get sidetracked , he needs to be out west or Alaska or e remote lol he's one hyper cat
